If God is My Provider, Why Do I Still Panic About Provision?

Rediscovering El Shaddai and the Truth About Financial Calm
This morning in the shower, between the silence of steam and the increasing panic starting to sneak into my own thoughts, an old song unexpectedly rose up in my spirit.
“El Shaddai, El Shaddai / El Elyon na Adonai…”
Amy Grant’s voice from my childhood, from mornings when my mother played that song while we got ready for church, echoed through my mind like a prayer I didn’t know I still remembered.
It had been decades. So why now?
Why this song?
Why this moment,
Especially when my heart started swirling in panic about provision, direction, and whether I’m doing enough?
The answer came as softly as the melody itself:
“I’m not just your God when you feel provided for. I’m El Shaddai, your All-Sufficient One, even when provision feels far.”
El Shaddai: The God of More Than Enough
Let’s pause here. El Shaddai is one of the most powerful names of God in the Old Testament. But it’s often misunderstood.
The Hebrew Root: “Shaddai”
The name “Shaddai” (שַׁדַּי) is traditionally translated as “Almighty” but its deeper root reveals so much more. It comes from the Hebrew word shad (שד), meaning breast, conveying nourishment, sustenance, and the ability to completely provide.
In other words, El Shaddai isn’t just our powerful God but He’s a nurturing, sustaining, abundant God.
El Shaddai = The All-Sufficient One
He is not just enough.
He is more than enough.
The Whisper Behind the Song: A Reminder for My Financial Fears
As I let the chorus loop in my mind, I realized it was not just a nostalgic tune or a beautiful memory of my mother. It was a divine interruption.
Because the panic started creeping up again.
Even as a financial professional and controller…
Even as a woman leading other women out of financial anxiety…
There is a bigger reason I talk more openly on stages, on social media and in intimate conversations about financial anxiety.
Because there are still moments, I catch myself allowing limiting beliefs sneak back in.
That I’m not doing enough.
That I am not enough.
That the numbers won’t stretch.
That I won’t be able to hold it all together.
But than I used my anxiety reset tool, a deeply expanded breathing that I also teach to other women to war against financial stress in moments like this, to quiet my swirling mind so I could hear God. That is when He reminded me of His name.
El Shaddai.

Financial Education Will Equip You. But El Shaddai Will Sustain You.
I believe in financial planning, in forecasting, in savings strategies, and in cash flow management.
But let’s be honest: Financial Education alone can’t heal the Fear we carry.
That’s where financial therapy meets theology.
All week, God has been whispering to me this truth & maybe you need it too:
“Even in your careful planning, I am the Source. Not the spreadsheet. Not the income. Me.”
We have to educate our minds but also rest our hearts.
Because when your mind is racing with anxiety, education feels overwhelming. But when your spirit is settled, you can receive wisdom.
What El Shaddai Teaches Us About Financial Peace
Here’s what this name means practically for your money:
El Shaddai means you can breathe when the bills feel bigger than the bank account. You don’t have to white-knuckle your way to peace.
El Shaddai means your worth is not tied to your wealth. He sustains you not your salary, not your sales.
El Shaddai means you are not rebuilding alone. Especially if you’re starting over after divorce, loss, or disruption. He’s already gone before you.
El Shaddai means there is still provision even in the pause. When it feels like you’re behind or stuck, He is still providing in ways you don’t yet see.
A Sacred Invitation: Come Back to the Provider, Not Just the Plan
What if your next budget meeting began with a prayer?
What if your healing began not with more hustle, but with remembrance?
“El Shaddai… the All-Sufficient One… You are my peace in this plan. You are my clarity in this chaos.”
Friend, your spreadsheet is important. But your Source is more powerful than any formula.
A Gentle Reset for Your Week:
Take 10 minutes today to:
Sit still then Breathe in through your nose for 4 counts, expanding your chest horizontally, then Breathe out of your mouth, fully releasing for 4 counts.
Ask God: “Where have I trusted my plan more than You, the Provider?”
Then… listen.
That whisper in your spirit? That’s not just memory. That’s manna.
